Teacher Cadet Program

One effort to recruit teachers, the Teacher Cadet Program, is modeled on a successful program in South Carolina. It targets high school juniors who apply to take the course and are screened and selected for participation by faculty. The class is open to students with at least a 3.0 grade point average and focuses on education as a career. Participating students receive one semester hour of college credit. Part of the course is field experience in a classroom setting.

"We cannot adequately prepare the coming generation if the least able students enter the profession. Teaching must become a top priority and gifted students must be recruited."
~ Dr. Ernest Boyer
